Wessex Cx 24-25 Rd 7: Kingsclere
After last weeks storm and mud, the wessex cyclocross league were treated to a sunny, dry race this week at Kingsclere. It was a tough course, on the side of a hill with not much rest. A killer uphill start led into a twisty downhill with a couple of little logs to hop over. A couple of hair pins then took the riders into a second field for some offcamber and tight turns before returning to the main field for the hurdles and the uphill drag to the finish.
Both Jay and Matt were racing the Vet40s Matt had a tough time on the tiring course, still suffering after his recent illness, but persevered to finish 43rd. Jay had a great race with a good start getting him in the top few places from the beginning. Some great riding and incredibly consistent lap times meant Jay secured another 4th place finish.
Emma was once again the only female representation of the club. Emma got off to a good start but soon began to feel it in the legs. Despite this she only dropped a couple of places and did her best to make gains on the tight technical sections. Clinging on to her competitors wheel all the way, Emma once again had a sprint finish. Giving it everything, Emma successfully won the sprint to finish 9th overall (4th senior).
Finally, Joe had a decent race with the highlight being he successfully jumped the barriers 9 times without crashing so well done Joe. He was pleasantly surprised to find himself ahead of some of his usual rivals on what was not a course suited to his abilities. 11 reps of the big hill left him in 17th place although the top 10 was made up of a few ringers this week so some good league points will be banked.
