All the latest news, events, and results from NFCC Members from this week’s two-wheeled adventures…
![]() Saturday Club RideWith weather that registered an 8 out of 10 on the Phil Harris misery index it was a smaller than usual turnout for this weeks club ride. With only seven riders at the start it was a single peloton this week for a planned 101Km ride to the north. The ride started uncharacteristically late at 0901 but this was to the advantage of perennial duvet huggers Axum and Smithy, who were grateful for this uncharacteristic tardiness as it enabled them to join up with the group without having to time trial themselves back on. With permadrizzle, low temperatures and a north easterly wind it was a challenging first half of the ride as we headed mainly north into the prevailing conditions. The group worked well together sharing the work on the front and we made the turn for home at Whitsbury. Now with the wind at our backs it was a nice ride back to The Potting Shed for coffee and the inevitable addition of Richard P. |
![]() All this way and nothing barrel worthy. With a good group, riders well turned out, properly prepped bikes and many of the serial offenders missing it was an easy choice. None of the riders who turned up for such hard miles are going in the barrel this week. But all of those too soft to turn out are definitely in. Thanks all for the usual good company and camaraderie. – Barry |
Sunday Club Ride – From BudgeI took it carefully on the way to the start as there was significant ice at the sides of the road and in some places it was right across, however as if by magic, it disappeared at the top of Bolderwood and was clear down to Brock. I Arrived spot on 9 to make up a foursome and we made our way gingerly up 10 bends picking up Pete N on the way. The day warmed up slightly as we headed to Burley where Andrew joined us. We carried on down Crow Hill, through Poulner to Rockford and the earlier ice had thankfully melted away. We passed a slowcial group of up to 40 cyclists on the narrow section to Moyles Court and threaded through Mockbeggar, Gorley and Stucton to the Roger Penny Way into a head wind. Of course this was reversed across the old airfield and we enjoyed a tailwind to the junction. I began to really struggle and the group waited at Bolderwood for me to join them. We discovered that no-one intended to stop for coffee as various commitments surfaced so we went our separate ways having enjoyed what was a new route for the Sunday group. After I turned up for home I spotted Jane coming the other way so assumed she’d started a bit later to avoid potential ice. |
