Weekly Round-up: 1 Sep 2024

All the latest news, events, and results from NFCC Members from this week’s two-wheeled adventures…

Gravel ‘n’ Grog Tuesday

Another successful ‘Gravel ‘n’ Grog’ ride on Tuesday evening. A group of club members met up at 5.45 in Lyndhurst car park ready to set off at 6.00. The route down to Brockenhurst is pretty easy riding with a handful of gates to navigate. The gates proved a handy way of keeping the group together.

RCR FatCreations Goodwood Points Chaser

The last race of the season at the Googdwood Motor Circuit of the 2024 season and Phill Brown was in action again. Heading to the race with an attacking plan in mind, Brown made or bridged to every break that tried to escape the peloton throughout the race, crossing the line for the mid-race prime in the top 5. A small group got off the from of the peloton before the three races on track crossed paths – this created a gap the main bunch were unable to close and the 12 rider up the road got away. Brown led into the final sprint and cross the line for 15th in his last race of the season.

Sunday Club Ride

Despite a slightly doubtful forecast 12 we’re tempted to the start line for this weeks Sunday club ride. As it turned out the thundery showers never turned up despite the hot and humid conditions. Two lots of six self-selected their group and set off for the Ipley X triangle followed by the Bucklers Hard loop. Group one seemed to start out at a pretty sedate pace but at some point someone must have had a rush of blood because their average pace as pretty lively by the time that they reached the cafe. Conditions must have been fast though as group two also averaged an unusually high pace this week. Thanks to Mark C and Paul H for hitting the front on the return leg to give my covid ravaged lungs a much needed break.

Speed merchants should enjoy the livelier pace while it lasts as I will be slowing things down again soon as we enter into autumnal semi-hibernation. Lovely to see ex-regular Aleks, who joined us on route for a while but who then mysteriously disappeared again at some point. Hope to see you again soon and actually speak to you next time!
A nice chatty ride which finished as usual at Setley ridge for coffees, cakes and good conversation.
