Wessex CX 23/24: Rd.13 – CrowCross
The final round of the Wessex cyclocross league was held on Sunday at Crow. A big thank you to Catherine and all the other organisers and teams who helped out over the weekend to host a brilliant event. After the mud fest at Southampton last week, everyone enjoyed having a drier course and the sunshine. Only a few patches of the course were muddy with the rest being firm. Catherine’s team did a great job at creating a twisty, interesting and hilly course.
Jay and Matt were racing the Vet40s as usual. Both riders had good starts and put in great performances. Jay looked to be riding really well. His consistent lap times secured him his best position yet of 2nd. Matt’s good start set him up well to finish 41st despite starting to fade on his last lap. Matt said it was an enjoyable course but hardwork.
Emma was again joined in the women’s race by Lucy Greehy who returned for her 3rd cyclocross race (despite taking a tumble last week). Emma had a good start for once meaning she was up with her main competitors from the off. Both women rode really well and had no mechanicals or crashes this week. Emma put in a great performance to finish 4th in her category (7th overall). Lucy was pleased with her result finishing 10th in her category, 25th overall.
Joe was once again racing the seniors and after a good result last week he was raring to go. Unfortunately Joe got held up by a crash on one of the early corners and spent the next lap or so playing catch up. Joe had some excellent laps to get back up to his rivals but couldn’t quite cling on at the end. Despite fading, Joe still finished 17th.
A big well done to everyone who raced this season and everyone who helped over this past weekend.
