Wessex CX 23/24: Rd.11 – Andover
The Wessex Cyclocross league returned this weekend with a brilliant event in Andover. A popular and fun event, the course had a bit of everything including steep banks, a couple of muddy patches, a sand pit and a BMX track. The sun was shining and the New Forest riders all had an enjoyable day out.
Jay had a tough day, still suffering from a cold. A not so good start meant he had to battle through more of the pack than usual. Jay still had some excellent riding to make his way back up but a few tumbles took their toll and he finished 8th. Still a brilliant performance. Matt was also racing the vet40s and was mostly pleased with his performance. Some good riding from Matt on the whole but a nasty crash on a road section lost him some time whilst he recovered. Despite this Matt still finished 56th. Matt said he had a great time on a very fun course.
There was a large women’s field this week and Emma had to fight hard off the line for position. A bad start meant Emma got held up on the first few bends and the first trip through the sand. With some hard riding over the next few laps, Emma managed to pull a few places back to finish 15th overall (9th senior).
After a few tough races for Joe he was a lot further back at the start than he is used to but a good start pulled him right back up after the first trip through the sand. Some excellent riding from Joe with a rare occurrence of no mechanicals and no crashes! A good ride to finish 25th.
The next Wessex league event is in Southampton on the 21st January. The final event of the season is our home event at Crow on the 28th January.
