National Hill Climb Championships 2022Phill Brown didn’t make much of a secret of his desire to get to the National Hill Climb Championships this year and after a short campaign without missing a podium (results of 1st-3rd-3rd(South region champs.)-3rd) he managed to secure ranking on SpinData leading to an accepted entry for the big event. Brown’s provisional A16 ranking left him seeded in the sharp end of the field, with a predicted finishing position of 56th out of the 305 male entries. Not one to give in to a challenge, he left it all on the hill and finished way ahead of his target time, crossing the line in 6:43.32 and finishing up in 36th place overall. There’s some amusing video footage floating around of an empty shell in an NFCC Skinsuit after the finish line. |
“A number of NFCC Members and other locals involved with our sport have helped me along this journey and I simply can’t articulate quite how grateful I am for all of your support. In a time when all we hear is of cycling events deteriorating, that couldn’t have been further from the truth this weekend and this picture from Gary Main says it all – no, that’s not the Tour de France, that’s a single track lane somewhere in North Wales! I’d love for others to experience this event and will happily join anyone who fancies giving it a crack on The Struggle in 2023.” |
