Bob Jolliffe has sent in this report of his recent exploits, reports from members are always welcome!
“Veteran Bob Jolliffe improved from 27-03 in the Hampshire Road Club 10 on P881 at Liss on May 11 to 26-52 in the …a3crg Middlemarkers’ 10 on the same course last Wednesday.
The 66-year-old then took another four seconds off that in the VC St Raphael 10 on the, allegedly, faster P881r on Saturday.
A stop for a suspected puncture, which turned out to be a piece of sticky tape adhered to the front tyre, cost him about 20 seconds in the Farnham Road Club 10 at Bentley the previous Saturday. He finished in 27-35.”
Meanwhile, this weekend saw Gary Lock, who normally focusses on Ironman distance triathlon, entered for the Hounslow and District Wheelers 100 on the Bentley course. It is a rough old surface, and may have been responsible for his tri bar mount failing. Gary had to abandon, but is racing an Ironman in two weeks so was pleased that it failed before that; the course claimed a number of DNFs. Antony Green also rode, hoping to ride at a consistent 25mph. The headwind proved too much, though lap times were consistent for 24.5mph, so no sub 4 hour ride.
Catherine Pascoe rode the H10/8 event on Saturday the 25th in almost as windy conditions as the 100, in a time of 28:54.
Stuart Peckham rode the same VC St Raphael Middle Markers event as Bob Jolliffe on Saturday the 25th on the P881r with a 21:47 for 22nd place.
Ray Claridge and Stuart Peckham were in action at the Wessex 50 championships, Stuart placing 19th with a 2:03:18. He commented that it was also windy as for the 100, but at least he had a decent road surface! That didn’t help Ray Claridge however, who unfortunately punctured at 41 miles.
A very good field for an evening 25, with the Jubilee slightly outnumbering the Forest, but also a trio of Fareham Wheelers riders. However, with one DNF each for the two clubs due to punctures, and one DNF for the Jubilee due to going off course, the finishing numbers for the Inter-club were the same. […]
Bob Jolliffe has been in touch with some of his recent results. On Weds, July 3, he rode the a3crg Middlemarkers’ 25 on P884b/25 finishing with 1-06-47 which he says is his best in England since 1983, giving him a plus of 5-18 on standard for a 66-year-old. The following Weds he clocked his best […]
