Weekend Round-up 23rd June

A busy weekend for racers as well as the well supported Saturday and Sunday rides.

A number of club members raced the Poole Wheelers Gary Dighton Memorial this weekend. Aron Kelly was 7th overall and 3rd Senior male with 20:40, Sonia Laurie was 3rd female with 25:22, Barry Hards was third Vet with 22:46. Bob Jolliffe did a 26:48 and no result yet for Jonathan Hyndman. Aron said that the wind was helpful on the way out but hard on the way back. He was very pleased with a PB and his first sub 21 minute ride. He’s been working on his position so look out for more fast times!

Stuart Peckham and Ray Claridge rode the Blazing Saddles 50. Stuart netted a PB in 1:53:59 and Ray recorded 1:53:30. Stuart said that conditions were cool with a headwind northbound.

Antony Green rode the ECCA 100. After riding too conservatively in his first hundred for 22 years, he decided to ride closer to 50 pace this weekend. A 9% better power output and higher av. HR, and the last 10k ridden at 3-4 beats below max HR resulted in a time of 3:48:31 for a new overall and Vet club record. Conditions were similar to those Stuart mentioned for the 50
