The New Forest Cycling Club

Weekend Round-up 13th August

Saturday ride report 11th August

This weeks club ride was kept within the forest. Total of 15 riders, made up of regulars and some welcome newcomers. A lot of regular riders were on holiday. Ride went out via Mill Lane as Balmer Lawn was closed, presumably flooded after Fridays rain. Total of 114Km taking in Beaulieu, Ipley Cross, Ashurst, Woodlands, Bramble Hill. A stitch of through and off across Fritham and Ocknells Plain and then through High Corner and Bolderwood. The riders then split with some going straight to the cafe stop at Cafe Velo in Ringwood where we were made very welcome. The remaining riders did an extra loop around Ogdens and Hyde.

Then after the coffee stop there was another loop around Bolderwood, Emery Down, Lyndhurst (very busy), onto Beaulieu where the last remaining 5 riders got a thourough soaking then back to Brockenhurst.

Thursday Chain Gang 9th August

11 riders started the chain gang this week. Normally at our chosen start times there is little traffic and we are able to ride through and off most of the route just having to change formation to let a couple of cars past. This week there was apparently some problem on the A31 and the net result was a very fragmented ride as we had to break formation to let cars past several times so as not to cause inconvenience to other road users. The second half of the ride from Burley was a lot clearer and provided the usual fast finish with a nice tailwind.

Stuart Peckham, Catherine Pascoe and Antony Green rode the Wessex VTTA championship 25 at Bentley. Catherine recorded a PB in 1.12.09, Stuart and Antony both improved their times for the course; Stuart recording 56:56 and Antony 52.48 for 6th overall and second place in the VTTA championship on standard.

Second TT goes ahead

Seven riders braved deceptively sunny but very chilly, windy conditions. Barry Hards in full TT kit came home in first place, Phil Jones the only other rider to come close to his time. George Weller (Junior) took part in his first TT and chose a tough day to do so. See Gerry’s photos in the […]

Wind scuppers first TT

In spite of a good number of volunteer marshals, the wind prevented the first club TT of the year taking place due to a fallen tree on the course. Hopefully the weather will improve for next weekend.
