BRAMSHAW’S multiple national cycling champion Julia Shaw added yet another title to her overflowing palmares when she took the 2013 Women’s Circuit Championship at Bovington on Saturday.
Shaw, who rides for the drag2zero team, hammered around the circuit in 47min 14sec beating gbcycles’ Hayley Simmonds into the silver medal slot by almost two minutes.
Simmonds’ time of 49-10 was eight seconds too good for bronze medallist Rebecca Slack.
Totton’s Claire Newman (Crabwood CC) took 13th place with 55-31.
Hargroves Cycles Racing Team’s Joe Evans won the Junior title race. The 2012 national schoolboy champion clocked 44-36 for the testing circuit. Peter Hansford Cycles’ Alistair Fielding took 12th place with 52-39.
The Men’s Championship went to Shaw’s teammate Matthew Bottrill who nipped around two laps in 1-01-58 to beat another multi-champ, Michael Hutchinson (In Gear-Quickvit-Trainsharp) by 50 seconds. Hutch’s terammate Josh Teasdale took bronze with 1-05-29.
New Forest CC’s Stuart Peckham finished with 1-17-08 for 35th place and Stuart Grace (GA Cycles) was 43rd with 1-21-55.
New Forest CC’s Nick O’Hara claimed a fair few scalps when he took third place in the Southdown Velo Club 25 near Chichester with a rapid 55-56.
The only two to beat the Waterside rider were Hampshire Road Club’s Andy Langdown and CC Weymouth’s Greg Parker who clocked 55-32 and 55-48 respectively.
Eighth place went to Bransgore’s Cliff Rowe (Bournemouth Jubilee Whlrs) with 58-20.
Forest win goes to Ashley
Team Feat’s Paul Ashley was fastest in New Forest CC’s club 10 south of Lyndhurst on Sunday with a time of 22-28, beating GA Cycles’ Gary Allan by 11 seconds.
Continuing his run of excellent form, New Forest CC junior Hugo Walters clocked 23-30 and snatched third place by a single second from under the nose off GA’s Simon Barnes.
Team Feat’s Marc Darcy was next with 23-37 and Antelope RT’s Steve Wood took sixth another second adrift.

VTTA National 10 postponed
The Veterans’ Time Trial Association National 10-mile title race at Newmarket on Saturday was stopped after the early 30-or-so riders had started when a team of contractors started putting comes on the carriageway in preparation for road works due to take place on Monday night.
Several of those that did finish the event clocked season’s fastest times.
New Forest CC brothers Chris and Bob Jolliffe were among those who had a fruitless journey.
Event organiser Karl Read said he is expecting to reschedule the championship for Saturday, September 28.
It may seem a bit early to be talking about cyclocross but, to quote the organiser of the first race “it is only 32 sleeps to the first race of the season!” The New Forest Cycling Club is now affiliated to the Wessex Cyclocross League for the 2019/2020 season. This means that NFCC riders will […]
Ray Claridge won last night’s TT with a 36:04, a very good time that would likely have had his 3 minute man and second placed rider Stuart Peckham just in sight on the last rise to the finish. The evening had an unhelpful wind direction, but was warm and at least rain free. A further […]
