TOP New Forest Cycling Club veteran Terry Jefferies got within nine seconds of his season’s best 10-mile time in the Poole Wheelers’ club event at Upton on Sunday.
The 64-year-old returned from a week’s illness to clock 23min 54sec in a stiff south-westerly wind on the exposed dual carriageway course, while second claim New Forest CC member Martin Beale (VC St Raphael) clipped a few seconds from his best of the year, reducing it to 21-56.
Winner was High Wycombe CC’s Andy Topham with a zinging 30mph-plus 19-46.
Second for Ben in BACC 10
New Forest’s Ben Boardman continued his run of form with a time of 23-17 for second place in the Bournemouth Arrow CC 10 on the Ringwood-Sopley road just eight seconds slower than the winning ride from Verwood’s multi Paralympian Gold Medallist Darren Kenny.
Boardman’s veteran clubmate Howard Doe also clocked a quick time of 24-24 for fifth place.
Garys take first and second in club 10
Scottish visitor Gary Brown (Equipe Velo Ecosse) won New Forest CC’s latest evening 10 around two laps of the arduous Holmsley-Bransgore circuit in 24-00.
Another Gary, New Forest’s Gary Lock, took second place in a cracking time of 24-14 from Tony Green (GA Cycles) with 24-30 and Martin Beale (VC St Raphael) with 24-45.
The event included riders from the Cyclists’ Touring Club New Forest Camping Week staged at nearby Braggers Wood.
