After disappointment due to the cancellation of the TT last week, this week Aron Kelly managed the win he’s been training for.
After giving up triathlon to focus on the bike, he’s hoping to have more success this year. His partner Sonia Laurie was also fastest female, with a strong field of 5 NFCC female riders.
20 riders tackled the reasonably fast P170, that has a hill top finish as a final test. The event saw a return to racing of James Bannister for second place, third was claimed by new rider Ollie Caudwell who was very pleased with his ride. The event was more disappointing for some: George Weller managed to fall off his bike at the start, fortunately with only a shipped chain; Alex Bennett managed to miss his start and had to wait 15 minutes to go off last; Catherine Pascoe’s rear wheel moved in the drop out and she rode the event with spokes clanging against the frame and a brake block rubbing; Stuart Peckham was looking forward to racing, but had to return his number when he realised he’d volunteered to marshal.
Next week sees a club event and also an interclub. We have volunteer marshals for the inter-club, but traditionally Sotonia provide these, so those volunteers may wish to ride and score points for the club.
A very good evening on the course, traffic was light with a few donkeys for some, and a helpful tail wind up the dreaded finish climb. The event went ahead with marshals volunteering after a request on Facebook. Aron Kelly was fastest home with a 22:27, 30 seconds off Paul Lockyer’s time last year with […]

Stuart Peckham (23:28 and 18th overall), Ray Claridge (22:51 and 10th overall) and Antony Green (21:24 and 3rd overall) made up the team, unfortunately Paul Lockyer was a non starter […]
