Road Racing

Road Racing Road racing is fast, furious and tactical … it’s not just a question of fitness. If you follow the Tour de France or other televised events you’ll see teams doing work for their ‘lead’ riders, you’ll see riders trying to catch others by surprise and spoil their plans, you’ll see some hectic sprints (and crashes) and some mountain climbing most of us can only dream of.

There is plenty of access to road racing in our area; there are races for all ability levels (including ‘Go Ride’ which is designed specifically to introduce you to racing and is great for children starting out) – there are plenty of races organized by the WXCRL, which take place at Barnsfield (Matchams) or on the Hampshire/Dorset borders; the TLI who have a calendar of events around the area (there is a popular ‘Heath’ race series near Beaulieu;) ‘Cycling South’ (a local arm of British Cycling) have an extensive calendar of closed circuit races in Portsmouth, Thruxton and other local venues.
