Group Rides.

New Forest CC covers a huge area and our membership is spread far & wide.
As a result we have several small training groups riding from different areas – so there should be something to suit everybody that wants to ride.
Visitors are welcome but please contact the ride leader first.

Saturday from Brockenhurst – The Saturday endurance ride normally leaves from Brockenhurst at 9am, right through the year.   During the winter months the start point will alternate with Holmsley Tea Rooms and Ashurst station (there’s a link to the winter training schedule at the bottom of this page).   The rides are usually around the 50 mile mark in winter and 60 miles or longer in summer.   As well as group riding some drills are included in the rides to add some specificity to the training.   The speed of the rides are structured depending on the time of year and the needs of the riders.   Typically 15-16mph in winter and 17-19mph in summer.   The aim of the rides is to build base fitness and endurance for the race season for time triallists and for circuit or road racing.   The rides are not intended to be so fast as to impair mid-week time trial performance or interval training sessions.   Riders are not dropped from the rides but there is an expectation that those joining have the requisite fitness and endurance for the ride.   In addition, the rides aim to provide the right preparation for the growing number of sportive riders.   Several riders from this group also enter local events as a group and ride together.   The rides frequently end at a local coffee shop.

If you’re planning to join the ride please contact the ride leader on barry.wootten@gmail.com or 07711 631826

Sunday from Pennington – A Sunday group ride, made up of NFCC club members and others, meets most Sundays at 08:45 at the Wheel Inn, Pennington.   This is less formally organised than the Saturday rides and the route and pace depends on the riders and numbers that turn up.   Usually the ride lasts for between 2.5 and 3.5 hours depending on the route chosen that day or how riders are feeling.   Shorter rides are normally ridden at higher speeds averaging around 18-19mph.

Before joining this ride for the first time please contact the ride leader via -mike@ahearn.me.uk or 01590 622349 or 07801 672988.

Sunday from Ringwood - A slower group meets at Tesco Express on Gorley Road at 9am most Sundays, weather permitting, to ride around 35 miles at around 15mph average but the speed is adjusted as necessary so that nobody gets dropped.   Usually around 4/5 riders.

Before your first ride with this group please check arrangements with Gerry via - gandm_read@talktalk.net or 01425 653822.

Sunday from Dibden Purlieu – Another group rides from the Heath Hotel, Beaulieu Road, Dibden Purlieu at 8am most Sundays and heads out towards Brockenhurst or Lymington to ride between 30 and 60 miles depending on who is there. Usually around five riders with a stop at a coffee shop in Barton on Sea and then the last hour home from there.
If you want to join the ride please text to Nigel on 07990 765886.
